If you are new to my blog, you probably don’t know that I am learning Korean. I am. However, before you think about learning it you should think about the benefits. Here are 5 Things You Gain From Learning Korean.
Things You Gain From Learning Korean
1. Hangul is surprisingly easy to learn
Now, before you tell me that it’s too hard, listen to the facts. Hangul(the Korean alphabet) was invented because using Chinese characters was very complicated. So Sejong the Great held a competition for a linguist to make an easy alphabet. This means that the Korean alphabet was made so people could learn it. This is why it is the easiest writing system in the world.
I learnt it in under a day and some people claim it can be learnt in under 20 minutes. Hangul has 19 consonants and 21 vowels(some of them are just vowel combinations which means this lowers the number) and they all have an equivalent in English. Obviously, the pronunciation is different but it gets easier over time but if you become a fluent speaker it will be very easy. English is also very common in Korean and even has its own name. Konglish. This makes it very easy sometimes and also enjoyable to see the variation.
2. Learn about Korean Culture
As with any country, there is a very rich culture along with it. In Korea, their language can show their culture as well. Through learning Korean I have learned so many things and I find it very fascinating. For example: Why do Korean people say’여보세요’ instead of ‘안녕하세요’ when answering the phone. This literally means here (여기) and look please (보세요). This means look here, please. The reason why they say it is because when you pick up the phone you don’t know who is there. This phrase was made before phones, however, it is more common on the phone.
3. Increase brain power
Everyone knows that it is scientifically proven that learning a foreign can help your brain. Learning Korean can stimulate intellectual growth, and enhance mental development. This keeps your brain active and healthy.
4. Build personal & business relationships
If you learn Korean you will be able to make friendships that wouldn’t have been possible beforehand. I know so many people who have made a lot of friends after learning Korean and I think this is amazing. Also, you could become boyfriend or girlfriend with someone after learning Korean. There are so many possibilities.
Even though a lot more people are learning Korean these days, it is still in high demand for many jobs. You could easily earn money from being a translator. And you could also think about working in places like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai.
5. Kpop and K-dramas
Watching K-dramas and listening to Kpop can be an amazing experience and if you learn Korean it can be even better. Most Korean music and cinema fans are content using subtitles or online translations, but learning the Korean language can help you have a deeper and more meaningful understanding of Korean songs and shows. On top of that if the translations are wrong you will be able to notice.
